Notes of Lesson for the Sixth English -the July 1st week-When the Trees Walked (Prose)

Teaching of Prose

Standard: VI,

Topic : When the Trees Walked,

Theme : “The profound connection between humans and nature, with a
focus on the significance and preservation of trees.”

Learning Outcomes:
E:605:reads a variety of texts in English / Braille and identifies main ideas, characters, sequence of ideas
and events and relates with his/her personal experiences
E:608:uses synonyms, antonyms appropriately deduce word meanings from clues in context while reading
a variety of texts
Introduction:
•When did the garden become a happy place for the author?
•What are the two reasons the author gives for the plants moving towards grandfather?
•Why does the writer think that the peepul tree is a great show off?
Guided Reading:
Teacher reads prose with correct stress, pauses and intonation. Students listen silently the
first time. The second time they repeat after the teacher. They study in small groups
TLM: New words chart, video and images.
The Teacher’s activity:
Before explaining this story, the teacher also explains the new words with the help of chart.
The teacher explains the lesson in simple words through video. And actions.

The Student’s activity:
Choose a favourite part of the story and have students role-play it. Volunteer students to
briefly explain the content explained by the teacher in front of other students.

• A young person becomes passionate about tree planting, inspired by their grandfather's belief that
trees will move again.
• They plant saplings on a small rocky island in a dry river-bed.
• Time passes, and the protagonist is separated from their homeland due to war.
• Upon returning years later, they discover the island transformed into a green paradise, filled with
flourishing trees.
• The trees have multiplied and are walking, bringing the grandfather's dream to life in a small corner
of the world.

grandfather in tree planting.

The grandfather shares a belief that the

Years later, upon returning, the
protagonist witnesses the trees they
planted flourishing and walking, fulfilling
the grandfather's dream.


MOT:
• How did the monsoon season contribute to the growth and spread of trees in the story?
• How did the protagonist's grandmother feel about living surrounded by trees? How did her
perspective differ from the protagonist's?

HOT:
• How do you interpret the phrase "grandfather's dream had come true" in the story's conclusion?
• How might the theme of nature and the importance of trees be explored throughout the story?
Remedial Teaching:
I give oral exercises, reading exercises to late bloomers. They use internet resource to
improve their skills.

Writing:
They follow the teacher and write exercises. They write book back exercises... reading comprehension,
vocabulary, listening and writing.

Follow up work:
Write about your experiences in help to protect the trees. Write a paragraph about the
uses of trees. Collect different trees images from various countries.
