Presentation:
• In this poem, the poet explores the theme of anger management. He shares his personal
experience of being angry with both a friend and an enemy.
• When he communicated his anger to his friend, it quickly dissipated and vanished. However, with
his enemy, he kept his anger bottled up inside, causing it to intensify over time.
• The poet compares anger to a plant or tree that requires nourishment and sunlight to grow. He
symbolizes his anger as a poison tree, which he watered with fear and tears, and sunned with
smiles and deceptive behavior in front of his enemy.
• The hidden anger grew like a shiny apple on the poison tree, attracting his enemy's attention. The
enemy, driven by curiosity or perhaps a sense of retribution, sneaked into the poet's garden during
the darkness, stole the apple, and consumed it.
• The theft of the apple signifies the release of the poet's pent-up anger. The next day, the poet
discovers his enemy dead, and the speaker feels a sense of satisfaction upon witnessing this
outcome.
• The poem highlights the consequences of harboring and nurturing anger, and the eventual release
or expression of that anger.
