Introduction:
• You are walking into a grove at 12 noon.
• You feel that somebody is following you.
• When you look behind, nobody is there.
• How would you feel?
• What would you do?
• Share it in the class.
TLM:
▪ Videos, PPT, Online resources and images.
Guided Reading:
The teacher reads the Poem with proper stress, pause, and intonation. Students listen silently
at the first time. Second time they repeat after the teacher. They read in small groups.
Teacher’s activity:
Before explaining this lesson, the teacher also explains the new words with the help of chart.
The teacher explains the lesson in simple words through video. And actions.
Student’s activity:
Volunteer students to briefly explain the content explained by the teacher in front of other
students.

He knocked at the door, calling the
house holders to open the door
He knocked on the door again but
there was no answer. Silence was
the answer to his call.
A bird flew out of the window
above his head.
A traveler came to the door of a

He did not know that there
was a group of spirits listening to him.
Consolidation and Presentation: (Write in Hints mode)
• In "The Listeners" poem, a Traveller arrives at an unfamiliar location and seeks entrance by
knocking on a Moonlight door.
• Despite his increasing efforts, he receives no response.
• The silence is broken only by the flight of a bird from a window above.
• The Traveller persists in his attempts to gain entry, but still, no answer comes.
• Unaware of the presence of unseen spirits listening, he stands bewildered.
• The poem explores the theme of man's insignificance in the vast universe, emphasizing his isolation
and lack of harmony with the natural world.
Reinforcement:
• Students will write about their experiences of loneliness.
• They will discuss about the merits and demerits of loneliness.
