Topic : Zigzag 

Theme : “ Everyone in the world has unique abilities. They will show them when

there is a need and opportunity.”



Learning Outcomes:
E:1031 : Writes scripts and participates in role play, skit, street plays for the promotion of social issues
like, conservation of environment, child labour and promotion of literacy etc. Writes scripts for role
play, skit, street plays for the promotion of social issues and participates in those events. Speaks the
dialogue with proper stress, pause, intonation and body language.

Competency
• To enable the learners to extrapolate from the given text.
• Read literary books in English, interpret, evaluate and respond to the characters, plot and
setting.
• To sketch the characters of the play.

Motivation and Introduction:
▪ Have you ever heard of a macaw a bird?
▪ What do macaws eat?
▪ How big is an African bird?
▪ How tall will it grow?
▪ Does it talk to others?
▪ The family that shelters a new pet is totally taken up by the commotions it creates at home.
Read on the story to find out there is a turn of events when the get to know the reality.

Guided Reading:
The teacher reads the Supplementary with proper stress, pause, and intonation.
Students listen silently at the first time. Second time they repeat after the teacher.
They read in small groups.

Teacher’s activity:
Before explaining this supplementary, the teacher also explains the new words with
the help of chart. The teacher explains the lesson in simple words through video. And
actions.

Student’s activity:
Choose a favourite part of the supplementary and have students role-play it.
Volunteer students to briefly explain the content explained by the teacher in front of
other students.

Presentation:
• The story "Zigzag" by Asha Nehemiah revolves around the commotion caused by a pet bird
at the Krishnan family's residence.
•Dr. Somu asked his cousin, Dr. Krishnan, to take care of his unusual and harmless bird,
Zigzag, while he went to Alaska. However, Mrs. Krishnan was unhappy with Zigzag's arrival,
as the bird didn't interact much with the children and snored loudly when it slept.
• The loud snoring became a source of annoyance for the Krishnan family and their neighbors.
One day, Mrs. Krishnan's masterpiece was ruined due to the noise created by Zigzag.
•Unable to bear it any longer, Mrs. Krishnan asked Dr. Krishnan to keep Zigzag in the car
while he went to the clinic, fearing the additional noise caused by the bird and the children.
• Surprisingly, Zigzag went to the reception table and managed to command the children to
be quiet and entertained.
•Dr. Krishnan was amazed to see his clinic become peaceful and orderly, and Zigzag stayed
engaged without getting bored or sleeping. This experience made the Krishnan family
realize the true worth of Zigzag.

does her perspective change throughout the story?

• In what ways does Zigzag's behavior in the clinic challenge Dr. Krishnan's expectations? How
does it impact the atmosphere and dynamics within the clinic?
• What does the incident in the clinic reveal about Zigzag's character and abilities? How does it
contrast with the bird's behavior at the Krishnan family's residence?

Assignment
Answer the following question in about 80 – 100 words
▪ What was the turn of events when Zigzag was taken to the clinic?

Writing:
They write the writing practice by follow the teacher. They write book back exercises, fill in
the blanks, write the answers for the questions.

Follow up work:
▪ Narrate the story Zigzag in your own words.
